HOMEWORK XI

Due:  Wednesday, April 23

Note:   Wednesday, April 23, will be a "catch-up" day in the lab.
There will be no new assignment after today.

Animations using lists

Since these exercises involve animations, do not submit a hard copy.  Instead, eMail an electronic version to me.

1.   Write an animation that displays, for example, the first 10 Taylor polynomials, of a given function f.  Using the insequence option, the animation should display one polynomial after another, using a suitable time delay.   Try this for several functions including y = sin x.  (Hint:  You will need to use both the series and the convert commands.)

2.    In the plottools library, there is a routine polygon that creates a polygon joining points in the specified list. For example,

polygon([[0, 0],[1, 1.5],[5, 3]], color = GREEN, thickness=3):
defines a triangle object, which can be displayed.  (Using five points one can define a pentagon object, etc.)  The rotate command applies to all such objects.
The translate(p, a, b) command may be used to translate a geometric object p, by a units in the x-direction and b units in the y-direction.
Write an animation that takes a geometric object of your choice (triangle, rectangle, etc.) and rotates the object in such a way that it appears to travel along the x-axis without slipping or sliding.
