Course Description:  We will cover topics in geometry, measurement and coordinate geometry.  As time permits we will touch on elements of statistics, and anything else I deem both interesting and important.  Prerequisite:  Math 365.

Textbook:  Billstein, Libeskind & Lott, A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers, 7th Ed.
Other requirements:
  A good compass and straightedge

Grading:  There will be three exams given during the semester.  The time and subject matter will be announced at least a week in advance.  The course final is cumulative and is scheduled for December 16, 8-10 am.  In addition to exams there will be semi-regular quizzes, problems worked on the board and collected in-class work and writing assignments. 

3 Exams @ 100 points                  = 300 points                   
Final exam:                                    = 150 points                   
Quizzes/class work/writing:          = 150 points

HOMEWORK:  A list of suggested homework problems is listed on the back of this syllabus (and on the web). In order to do well on the quizzes and exams you should be able to solve these problems. Homework will not be collected. Please do not fall behind on the assignments! Questions from the homework will be answered as time permits and every student will be expected to solve problems at the board.

Make-up Policy:  Make-ups for missed exams will only be allowed for a university approved excuse in writing.  Consistent with University Student Rules, students are required to notify an instructor by the end of the next working day after missing an exam.  Otherwise they forfeit their right to a make-up.

Scholastic Dishonesty:  Copying work done by others, either in class or out of class, is an act of scholastic dishonesty and will be prosecuted to the full extent allowed by University policy.  For more information on university policies regarding scholastic dishonesty, see University Student Rules.
