STAT 388-001
Fall 2011
This is a two-credit course that is supplemental to MATH/STAT 404 during the Fall 2011 semester. We will meet right after our MATH/STAT 404 class on Tuesdays and Thursdays but in a different room.
If you are enrolled in MATH/STAT 404, I recommend that you enroll in this supplemental course as well.
1. If you have never taken a course in multivariable calculus, then this supplemental course is REQUIRED.
2. If you have forgotten a lot of multivariable differentiation and integration, then the supplemental course is HIGHLY recommended.
Here are some topics that will be covered in STAT 388-001: A review of calculus, convergence, sequences and series, Taylor series, differentiation and integration of functions of several variables, linear algebra, shortcuts and tricks of the trade.
There is no textbook required for STAT 388-001. However, your old calculus textbooks could be handy references. Mostly, we will work problems that are typical in theoretical probability and statistics.
