Tips for Doing Well in this course:   (1) READ THE BOOK and (2) DO the PROBLEMS.

Homework: You should do all the Check your skills problems, and the odd numbered problems at the end of each section. Homework problems will be the content of weekly quizzes.

Grading: We will have at least 3 exams and a 10 point quiz at least every week. Some of the quizzes will be done on StatsPortal. All of the quizzes will consist of homework problems.

Your grade is calculated by taking your total points and dividing by the total points possible for the course, i.e. 400. This gives your percentage. Then the averages are curved so that 92-100=A, 90-91=A-, 80-89=B, 70-79=C, 60-69=D, below 60=F. Your current grades are posted on Blackboard as soon as the grades are recorded.

The range for minus grades and plus grades will be determined at the end of the semester. I reserve the right to modify the grading rules, or the number of exams or quizzes as conditions warrant.

There are NO makeup exams or Quizzes. If you miss an exam you must have a good excuse and, if acceptable, the final inherits those points. If your excuse is not acceptable you receive a ZERO for that exam or quiz.  Not being ready to take the exam, or one of its many euphemisms, is NOT a valid excuse. You must notify me by email PRIOR to the quiz or exam in order to qualify to move the points to the final.

Attendance in class is optional except for the exams and quizzes.  If you do come to class you should NOT leave early because that disrupts the rest of the class. If you do miss class it is still your responsibility to know what  was covered in class, what the assignments are, and when the quizzes and exams are.

Academic Dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Penalties range from a zero on the exam or quiz to expulsion from the university.
