Class Notes for AB – Monday, 13th February

Homework 2 due this Wednesday;

Homework 3 due in two weeks (Monday);

First Exam is Wednesday 1st March.

Today’s Class

·       3.6 LOF test – ex. 3.14 from D&S, ex. 3.15: LOF from line in the direction of what?  LOF test is a Full-and-Reduced F test

·       ex. 3.16: how can we do a LOF test in the presence of unequal variances?  We must extend the results, and use the -2DLL c2 test referenced in Chap. 2; output on top of p.31 is wrong, but SAS program in Appendix 3.7.1 (pp. 33-4) is right

·       same idea for section 3.6.2 – heterogeneous one-way ANOVA

·       3.5.1 Mixed Models – EMS’ indicate the correct error term for the respective effect; sometimes, trouble such as on p.22

·       3.5.2 Nested Models – again, different error terms; in COD’s, patients are nested within sequence – e.g., this is specified in last line of SAS program on p.17

·       3.5.3 Split plot designs – WP (whole plot) error and SP (split plot) error terms

·       All these models point out that we cannot just use computer output results – make sure the correct error term is used!!
